You need JavaScript enabled to view it EPIC 2154 Safety Glasses must be worn in labs EPIC 2130, EPIC 2140, EPIC 2142 & EPIC 2148 when cutting, soldering, or energizing power circuits Students must read and follow these Lab Safety Rules Introduction Your ECE laboratory experience at UNC Charlotte has been designed to provide you with the basic laboratory skills needed in your engineering profession. The ability to build and evaluate electrical and electronics equipment is essential for the majority of jobs in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Your laboratory assignments will require a methodical approach to the collection and analysis of data and will emphasize the appropriate presentation of your results. In order to gain the most from your laboratory experience you must study each experiment and answer the pre-lab questions in advance of the laboratory meeting. Although a diligent effort to synchronize experiments with lecture topics has been made, you may be required at times to perform experiments on topics that have not been fully covered in class. It is therefore important to be well prepared for each lab session by starting the pre-lab exercise early and asking questions as necessary. See your TA or visit my office for help or reference materials if you are having difficulty understanding a pre-lab exercise or experimental procedure. We hope your laboratory experience will be a valuable part of your engineering education. Questions, concerns and suggestions are always welcome. Student-Supplied Materials -- Lab kits and Notebooks Text books are not required for laboratory courses. Instead, students must provide hand tools, test leads, breadboards, and other items that are used to set-up and perform experiments. One set of tools is required for each lab working group - usually two students - and may be shared, although most students prefer to have their own kits. The same tools are required for all lab courses, so a one-time purchase covers most student-supplied materials needed for ECGR 2155, 2156, 3155, 3156 and 2255. Lab kits may be purchased online from Electronix Express. Two pre-packaged kits are available: Standard, and Deluxe. The standard kit contains everything that you will need for in-class experiments. The deluxe kit is optional for students having a personal desire for the additional items that it contains. To view the contents of a kit, click "More Info" beside the line item on the Electronix Express web page. Individual kit items are described in the Electronix Express online catalog. A sample kit is available for examination in Mr. Hill's office at EPIC 2154. BE SURE TO PLACE ORDERS WELL BEFORE THE START OF CLASSES TO ASSURE SUFFICIENT TIME FOR ORDER PROCESSING AND SHIPPING. Students will keep “Laboratory Notebooks” containing details of weekly experiments, data collected, and calculations. College-ruled composition books available at any office supply store may be purchased for use as laboratory notebooks. Academic Integrity Students work together in the laboratory to build circuits and measure data. Except for discussion and the sharing of data among lab partners, collaboration ends when the lab session is over. Students must work independently to write their own pre-lab exercises and reports. There must be no copying of student-generated text, tables, charts or graphs. Use of text copied from internet sources, e.g., Wikipedia is strictly forbidden. Raw data aside, any duplicate work submitted will be viewed as cheating, and will result in disciplinary action according to university policy. The penalty for a first offense can range from a formal warning to an F for the course. Regardless of the penalty imposed, a record of the offense will be kept for eight years in the Office of the Dean of Students. Plagiarism Checking – Turnitin Laboratory reports may be subject to submission for textual similarity review to Turnitin.com for the detection of plagiarism. All submitted reports will be included as source documents in the Turnitin.com reference database solely for the purpose of detecting plagiarism of such reports. No student reports will be submitted to Turnitin.com without a student’s written consent and permission. If a student does not provide such written consent and permission, plagiarism checking will be accomplished by other means. Religious Holidays - University Policy Students wishing to be excused from classes for religious holidays must submit a Request for Religious Accommodation Form before the census date. Lab Experiments Lab reports are submitted and graded online using MOODLE. Please check Moodle for your section schedule. EMERGENCY CLOSINGS: In the event of inclement weather or local emergency, check the UNC Charlotte website for emergency closing announcements. If the university is closed, lab classes are canceled. Lab classes will resume on schedule when the university reopens. Lab instructors will arrange make-up sessions for labs canceled due to unscheduled university closings.
